1. MVSKOKE EN YVLONKV

ALPHABET & SOUNDS

The word used for the alphabet in Mvskoke is "Mvskoke En Yvlonkv", meaning "Mvskoke's Roots". It is a descriptive word, explaining how these sounds are the root to all words of the language.

The Mvskoke alphabet has a long history. It changed a lot over time--even since it was standardized in the 1850s. The first time Mvskoke was ever written was by a German man in 1736. There were people who used the Greek alphabet to write Mvskoke as well in the 1700s. The Mvskoke people started standardizing our written language and using it to create ads, newspapers, books, laws, and more in the 1800s.

The alphabet we use today is not a new one.

The Mvskoke alphabet has 20 letters--which is less than English. Let's start learning them.
